Yancey County Commissioners begin Community Paramedic Program

Yancey County Commissioners moved forward with the Community Paramedic Program. Evan Carroll was hired as the Community Paramedic for Yancey County. This program will link patients with community resources and medical intervention.

The main areas of focus at this time will be:

• • Fall Risk Assessment
  • Hypertension
  • Opioid Misuse
  • Vital Signs Assessment
  • Blood Glucose Assessment
  • Medication Compliance
  • Vaccination
  • Education/ Review of Care Plan
  • Stroke rehab and prevention.
    
    

Health Care Professionals may refer patients to the program for an at home follow-up assessment for in-between routine office visits for those considered "at risk". "This is a great health resource for our citizens in hopes of preventing illness, repeat hospitalizations and prevent the financial burdens that a hospital visit brings" said Chairman Jeff Whitson.

Yancey County Commissioners remain dedicated to the health and well-being of Yancey County citizens and look forward to hearing the success stories that this program will bring.
