The Yancey County Soil and Water Conservation District is a local subdivision of State government responsible for conserving soil, water and related natural resources within the district.

The Yancey District consists of a Board of Supervisors with elected and appointed positions that establish policy, and promote conservation measures in schools and the general public. Additionally, staff provides assistance to landowners with their natural resources and representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency of the US Department of Agriculture which provides technical assistance.

Yancey SWCD's regularly scheduled monthly board meeting is the 1st Tuesday of every month at 8:00 AM. The meeting is at 111 Oak Crest Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
