Enhanced 911 (E-911) provides Emergency Operations Center personnel with immediate address information from a land line phone. This information is critical in providing immediate emergency services to citizens in need. Cellular coverage is about 80% of Yancey County; in most cases we will get a Latitude & Longitude on a person calling 911 from a cellular phone. Yancey County is served by three carriers, Verizon, US Cellular, and AT&T.
Telecommunicators serve in the Emergency Operations Center that receives and dispatches non-emergency and emergency calls to the appropriate agencies. Work is performed in accordance with established policy, procedures and protocols. Tact, courtesy, firmness and good judgment must be exercised in dealing with callers, responders, public and support staff.

Yancey E-911 Office offers map books and wall maps for sale. Map books can be purchased from our office for $10.00 plus mailing cost. Wall maps can be purchased from the Mapping Office for $10.00 plus mailing cost.
