Yancey County Announces New Improvements in Tax Collection Process

Yancey County is pleased to announce two new improvements that have recently been added in the Tax Collection Office. Folks who would like to pay their tax bills in installment payments can now do so. Taxpayers can see the staff in the Tax Collector's Office to develop a payment plan to pay property tax. Another improvement that has been implemented in the Tax Collection Office is the availability to use debit and credit cards to pay a tax bill. A one-time service fee of 3% of the bill is charged, by the bank, as a convenience fee for all transactions. County Manager Nathan Bennett stated, "By making these changes the County is hoping to bring the tax office into the 21st century and provide a way to spread some of the burden of paying taxes over time instead of a lump sum payment. We all realize that paying taxes is an inevitable and unavoidable occurrence but the County wants to make the process as easy as possible on the taxpayer."
