Yancey County Commissioners Take Action on Items at November Meeting

The commissioners heard from Tax Administrator Danny McIntosh who informed them that the standards, rules, and schedule of values for the 2016 reappraisal had been completed and a public hearing on these has taken place. Mr. McIntosh explained that the standards, rules, and schedule of values will be used to determine the value of all property in Yancey County for 2016. The reappraisal values will be used for the next 8 years in determining the assessments of real property in Yancey County for purposes of taxation. The goal of these standards, rules, and schedule of values is to be fair and equitable to everyone in determining the value of property.

The commissioners also heard from County Manager Nathan Bennett who explained that the building that housed the Yancey County Senior Center before their move was of no use to the County and asked for it to be declared surplus and sold. The commissioners agreed with Mr. Bennett’s recommendation and directed him to take all appropriate steps to market the property
for sale.

The next regular meeting of the Yancey County Commissioners will be Monday, December 14th at 6:00 pm.
